Put some supports under the grate, and even double it up. Even 1/4" holes will allow the smoke up, and grease down.

If it Royal Oak Briquettes, run the other way, as fast as you can. I made this mistake. It coks alright, but if you want to use briquettes, Kingsford is much better.
