After reading through the sausage making threads I realize there is alot more to making the brats then I thought. As a beginner should I buy a stuffer or use the attachment on the grinder? Will there be a big difference in stuffing the brats. What would be best the vertical or horizontal stuffer. Crank handle or muscle? I was at Bass Pro and almost bought a 3lb horizontal stuffer. Would this be ok to start with?

Still a newbie to sausage making, but after pushing 42 lbs of meat through the grinder and stuffer attachment, I'd recommend a different path. It worked, but it was slow and a real PITA.

I have a 5 lb vertical stuffer. It will stuff the casings as fast as you can load them. If I was rich I would get one that has a motor and a foot switch so I could have both hands free when stuffing. Still, hand cranking the 5 lb vertical is a million times better than using the grinder to stuff sausage.

I had a 30 lbs cabela's stuffer with motor & sent it back & bought a 15 lb crank horizontal. Motor didnt give me any 'feel' while stuffing & wasnt strong enough for doing snack sticks. Was worried about not having both hands free but after a bit u get the hang of it.
