That looks like an older Ok Joe but nice shape. I too would have loaded it on the truck right then and there. Nice find. Get a pic when it's restored. |

Can do!
What should I do about the rust on the inside? Should I take a wire wheel to it, and reseason the cooker?
I will, of course, wire wheel and paint the outside. _________________ The Edge... there is no honest way to explain it because the only people who really know where it is are the ones who have gone over - Hunter S. Thompson |

I would wire wheel and then naval jelly... But wire wheel and season would probably be good enough. I am just a huge fan of naval jelly when it comes to rust... |

So I have begun work on my new machine here. I have an assortment of wire brushes from hand brushes to wire wheels that fit into the drill chuck. I have begun the laborious process of stripping all the rust off.
How far do I need to take it down?
the inside has some metal that has flaked off, but it is all still fairly heavy. it is definitely not 1/4", but is by far more heavy duty than anyting I could get around here for that kind of price.
I will hand brush most of the inside, except what I can get to with the drill, then coat and season. I bought some high temp stove paint for the outside.
I am planning on removing the cooker from the stand so I can clean it better, and replacing the nuts and bolt hardware. Especially that for the door and vents, they are pretty rusty and make it hard to open/close. should I use stainless??
I am was hoping to take the lids of the cooking and fire box off, but they won't come off due to the hinge arraingement.
I will post some pictures this coming weekent with the progress. _________________ The Edge... there is no honest way to explain it because the only people who really know where it is are the ones who have gone over - Hunter S. Thompson |

Just wire wheel it until no more is flying off. Knock it back down to solid and somewhat clean material. When the dust is not flying - you are golden. |

Bob, that brings back fond memories for me . . . my first smoker was that exact model . . . I loved it and learned to cook great on it, but the small size is what finally made me decide to sell it--and then I went off the deep end! _________________ Stumps GF223 Competition Model

It's less than half the current retail price, a 57% discount, not including sales taxes. Looks like a pretty good deal to me.
