i was going to chime in this post a few days ago but i thought it was dead.
I have had my plasma cutter for about 6 years now and i dont know how i would live with out it.
True story: My buddy was building his first dyno trailer (measure horsepower of vehicles) i asked him if he wanted to try out my plasma cutter, so i let him use it for 2 weeks he was previously using a chopsaw. Well i called him up and told him i would need it back and apparently he felt he could not live with out it either because he bought an identical one a few days later. He brought me on to build the second trailer which we used it to cut up all out box tube. we then proceded to build 4 more trailers.. however the plasma is nice but for such a big project we bought a $5000 Cold saw... another life saver!
Anyways as far as what brand to buy, thermal dynamics is one of the best, im happy with my Miller spectrum 375 i have never had one problem with it. whatever you get make sure it is a drag cut plasma not a stand off. Stand off you can cut thicker and potentially cleaner cuts. (i say potenitally because there are a few other factors when it comes to a clean cut) With drag cutting it makes it a lot simpler to drag against a straight edge.
This is a picture of a drag cut with my Spectrum 375
Here are a few pics of the trailers i was refering to they are not small by any means.

Nice cuts and nice trailers. My Miller X-treme 375 is supposed to be here today but I am at work and it requires a signature so I will probably get it tomorrow. _________________ The Wild Pig build.

Well I got my plasma and I have started to play with it. I figure I will learn it a little better before I start my next smoker. I find it really easy to use. I just have to figure out the power and cut speed. I have a tendency to get going too fast. lol
So, I was about to throw the old UDS away when I decided to practice some more. Man cutting these drums is like cutting paper with scissors.

Hypertherm is the way to go with plasma cutters, more money but you will be happy with the machine. 30 + years in the business...
