I have seen quite few oak tree's here in the Tacoma area. According to Google they are Garry/Oregon White Oak. Its different from from I am accustomed to, a lot of it has lots of moss and what not.

We just had a major wind storm blow through the area. I found a downed oak and helped myself. From what I remember, oak has some good weight to it. This on the other hand is somewhat light.

Almost like its rotten or already dried out. Would it be worth while to age and cook with?

The reason I ask, you cannot buy oak to smoke with up here. You have to special order it. Kind of a pain.

That limb looks pretty well spent from here, and you can see fungus already developing in the remains. I wouldn't use it for cooking...

Cheers!

That wood has been dead for awhile.

Look around for a wood supplier. I find em all over the place on craigslist. Find one that has oak.
