John has completed 23 days (Mon - Fri) of Radiation/Chemo, has 7 more Chemo treatments and 8 more Radiation treatments left. He was doing pretty well till about a week and a half ago. The one Chemo drug plugs ya up, and he was miserable. Couldn't keep any food or liquids down and his belly always hurt from cramping. Finally got that cleared up last weekend and he finally smiled again today. Sure is a killer watching your son suffer so much and not be able to do anything. The Radiation treatment series he had before made him throw up after/during every treatment. The radiation was hitting the nerves that control his sense of smell. Even tho there was nothing to smell, he got the worst smell known to man (His words) when they treated his head. I found some Peppermint Oil that I put on a napkin and set in his mask. It helped some, and let him tolerate the treatments till they were done, but someone had to be there with the puke bucket as soon as his mask was removed. The new series just focuses on where the tumor was removed so they're not treating his spine anymore, and they're not doing his whole head so the smell is mostly gone too. He has some Radiation burn on his head/neck and Esophagus but hopefully that will go away in a week or so since they moved the target area they're Radiating. He's finally eating again, not much, but eating. He lost 11 lbs since he started treatments, 8 of em since the 8th. Praying things go ok for him till the last radiation treatment, then he has 6 weeks off till he starts his 6 months of Chemo treatments.

We sure appreciate your Prayers, Thank You to all y'all.

Thanks all. It's been a tough one so far, but the lil' guy is one strong dude. Definitely cannot call him a boy anymore. He's been stronger than some men I know.

I make him shakes with BOOST and Ice Cream, and a lil' Mirilax to keep him regular. Wink The problem is the Radiation whooped his taste buds and nothing tastes good to him. He also lost his appetite and I hate forcing him to eat. Dr gave him something to help his appetite today, hoping it works. I've been cooking EVERYTHING trying to find something that tastes 1/2way good to him. Just about all out of ideas. Sad

I hope I'm not crossing any lines here, but read this bigjoe -

I know, from experience, not eating slows your recovery (Iwas in a bad wreck 20+ years ago). Having the munchies helped me get my appetite back after not eating for 10 days (they fed me with them damn tubes in my arms Crying or Very sad ).

No line crossed. Wink He actually is on Marinol when he needs it. It's Legal Marijuana in a pill form. It helps with the nausea, but it's not giving him the munchies and he really dislikes the 'High'. Glad too, seen too many lives messed up by drugs.
