FWIW, I just picked up some material for a new project.
I got the following.
40' of 1x1x1/8 angle iron
20' of 3/4x1/8 flat bar
The price was $74 , everything cut to 10'. I was in the local hardware store later the same day and decided to look at the prices, if I bought 3' cuts of the same material it would be $140+tax.
Just throwing it out there, if you check the local steel suppliers it may save a whole lot, compared to H.D., Lowes, etc. |

Hardware stores are the worst place to buy metal. As you pointed out its almost double the money.
I have a steel yard near by. They do charge to cut 20' into 10' lengths. I usually find a way to haul the long sticks home and save the $10 per cut. _________________ **Steve**

Also with many steel suppliers volume counts in the price. Try to buy as much of your material as you can at a time. The more weight involved the better the price you can negotiate. _________________ Patio Cooker - in progress!
