I run a few tailgate parties down to Buffalo for the Bills. Until this year, we've always done burgers and sausages.
I am looking to up my game this year and offer pulled pork and a few sides.
My question is how much would people recomend for a large group (50-55 people). I have read 1/2 lb per person, and I've heard 1 lb per person.
It will be the main food, along with beans and mac n cheese (or similar). Also note these people will most likely be indulging in a few wobbly-pops (I know that when I've had a few my apetite grows).
What would anyone here recommend? |

5.33 Oz in a bun is a good sized sammie, but to serve 5.33 Oz you need 10.66 Oz uncooked weight, most big eaters can do 1.5 - 2 sammies that size, so 55 x 21.32 = 74 lbs (@ x 2) or 55 lbs (@ 1.5 per), if tailgating a whole afternoon.
If you do 1 lb / person raw weight, you will end up at about 8 Oz cooked weight per person, or 2 x 4 Oz meat filled buns. _________________ Here's a change Robert.

The first one I'd probably go with 8oz (1#raw weight) per person. After that inaugural event you should be able to zero in on it pretty well.
Were you referring to sandwiches? I didn't take that from your post. _________________ Somewhere in Kenya...a village is missing their idiot. |

We would be serving "make your own" sandwich style, probably with burger or slider buns. _________________ Kill a pig, start a fire, reach Nirvana |

A few tailgating parties huh. That must be a good time.
I Love tailgating and am doing it on Sunday myself. I just hope it's not too cold.
I would go around a pound per person so there's plenty for everyone and make sure there are lots of snacks. It also depends on the people going. Girls usually don't eat as much and the big boys eat a lot. So a pound and lots of sides and snacks to go with all the beer! _________________ Ready to Eat |
