Getting ready to start the next pit....

Estimating high to 3,000 lbs trailer weight.

will be using tandem axel

I have some 3x3 angle iron, think it's 5/16th Would this be strong enough for the frame?

total length will be 16'

pyronoel, you will be fine with 3" x 3" x 5/16" angle. My tandem axle 16' lowboy here at work is framed out with 3" x 3" x 1/4" and it hauls some pretty good loads.
I do prefer 4" channel for my rails when I build one.

Thanks Kevin,

This one isn't going to be too crazy heavy.. and the majority of the weight it will have will be slung right over the axles. (propane/water)

Once I actually start cutting, I'll start a new build thread.

You guys and you angle iron Laughing

My preference would be tubing or channel but angle is always doable. Might think about putting your cross members a little closer, maybe 16"-18" centers for a little extra rigidity. Cope your cross members to get a good fit and more area to weld. Just watch your angle as you work down it with you cross members and make sure it stays true and doesn't twist on you any. A wrap around tongue to the first spring hanger will help strengthen the trailer as well.

Picking up metal later this week... Tongue will be 4" channel, rest will be the 3x3 angle
