Canada is getting rid of the penny. Yup those copper colored coins well all love to toss into 5 gallon buckets or old water bottles. What do you think?

I gotta agree with MacEggs on this one, wish the U.S. would do the same.
Try bringing a water jug full of pennies to the bank.
When production cost exceeds the face value, time to go away. |

The price of everything already ends in .99, so whats one more penny?
Anything that ever was a penny will now cost you 5.
The penny will be a collector's item from now on, what will they be worth now? |

I'm not so sure about that. A penny is not a single use item. It get's re-used hundreds if not thousands of times. A penny can stay in circulation for many many years. So I don't think eliminating it because it cost more than $.01 to produce is a valid argument. The Goverment isn't "losing" money to produce the cent coin.
Nickels also cost more than 5 cents to produce.

Or, you will have to buy a minimum of 5.
Myself, I love saving change in a big jar and haul it to the bank a few times a year to get it counted in the machine. I never fail to walk away with a few hundred bucks (this is mixed change).
The past few years I started tossing the money from the change maching into a specific checking acount and saving it up for "toys". So far it's helped pay for my new 55" Samsung TV and a most recently Weber EP330

I save my change as well and we have one and two dollar coins so it sure does add up fast. _________________ Chargriller Akorn

I just thought about this yesterday as I was walking out of the store and dropped a penny. When I was deciding whether or not to bend over and pick it back up I decided if I left it there it would be the same a littering. It really made me think about the value of a penny since in my head I equated it to be more equal to trash than say a quarter. |
