|
|
I got a call from a guy in the Roanoke, VA area that wants to cook his own pig, but is having trouble finding a local source. He did not desire a catering service, but just wants the pig so I thought I would try to help hm find one. I can get him a pig, but he would have to drive 300 miles roundtrip for my butcher. Does anyone know a local butcher that can source him a 100 lb skin on bbq pig? He named a half dozen places that say they no longer sell whole pigs.
Thanks |

Have him check with his local grocery store, that was always my source before going professional. _________________ Just remember that the toes you may step on during your climb to the top will also be attached to the a$$es you'll be forced to kiss on your way back down! |

| Nearly impossible to get around here. I can give him a number to a slaughter house that will order one in frozen and thaw it for him. He will want to order about 10 days before he wants it and he would have to drive about 1 1/2 one way to get it. |

thanks for posting Slow Heat. I could not remember your handle to PM you.
That is hard to believe that a whole pig is hard to find anywhere in VA.
I found a guy in Salem that can order one in but he rarely does so.
Wow... I am lucky. I have a butcher that will provide most anything I need. |

| Donald's Meat Processing will not get you a hog. There is not a supplier with in 80 miles of Lexington, va I have been able to find who can get a fresh hog with skin on and none scald hogs anymore. I get them from a place in Stuarts Draft that orders them frozen and then thaws them for me in his cooler. The current rate as on the 121lb hog I bought on Friday was $2.00 lb The largest they can get is 150 lbs. I wish I could get them 175-200 lbs. |

I second EcoFriendly Foods in Moneta. I used to live down the road from them, and they had great meat. They use small farmers and they try to keep everything very local. I never ordered a whole hog from them, but I did ask, and they said they could get whatever you want as long as you give them some time. _________________ Southerner in PA, trying to teach some Northerners about real BBQ.
