I have a very good friend that wants to back a food cart that serves mostly BBQ. He already does a ton of business on Ebay and uses pay pal to process his current work.
I dont have a smart phone and his is not supported by the square device. I have not looked at the rates but am under the impression that the square software and device might be the way to go for POS. He has an I-pad 3 coming.
Any quick advice from users? _________________ #3 LIAR

Most portable pay companies charge around 2.75% per transaction and are easy to use and set up....not necessarily quick but easy.
I know a lot of people strictly deal in cash sales but I am a firm believer being able to accept CC/Debit for payment increases sales dramatically. _________________ Where rumors end and legend lives forever... |

That is extremely important in downtown Weirdland. Most of the people that frequent the carts down there either don't carry cash or the ones that do don't carry small denominations... Might want to tell your buddy that a new BBQ vendor just moved down there across from Voodoo Donuts.. Rig called Pork Chop City...
Getting back to your question I have heard there are some security concerns regarding the Square software. But I do not have first hand experience with it so can't give you a difinitive answer. |

Thanks for the heads up on the place.
Most of the places that i have seen or rather tried are not that good.
I just want to know about the device and software at this point. _________________ #3 LIAR

We love square for CC payments, never a problem, deposits done daily, easy and quick to get going, no set-up/start-up fees, no contract, no commitments.
And lately we have been seeing people use squares 'Card Case" feature more regularly, they simply open a tab on their smart phone, and we accept payment from that with no card swiping involved. It is nice because card-case has an auto locate feature that shows nearby vendors who use square.
The Square register app will not work for us, but it may just work for your buddy depending on menu complexity. _________________ Just remember that the toes you may step on during your climb to the top will also be attached to the a$$es you'll be forced to kiss on your way back down! |

I have to agree that Square is GREAT. I've been using it for well over a year in my jerky business. The rates are fair (2.75%) and that's it. No hidden fees, and my money is deposited nightly. I haven't had one problem with it. My wife and son also have it on their iphones, so whoever is delivering or working can take a payment wherever they are. _________________ Swamp Mama's Hawgs & Dawgs BBQ & Jerky Shack
