First, thank you all for your enthusiasm and ideas that you share on this site. Looking at other builds ispires me.

I currenly have a offset that I built a few years back. Now I have decided to build a DP clone. BUT, my wife and I have a need for a smaller pit for weekend at home cooks, so I got a vision while designing the DP clone for a small reverse flow.

I started with a tank that has huge bubble ends. So I cut the ends off. I will use the main part of the tank for the DP Clone

Fill it with soap and water

Alright, now hold my breath and cut the ends off. This was a little scary as it popped a few times

I had a hose reel cart that was broken so I robbed the wheels and axles off of it and built this little frame

Now put the two ends together to make a kettle and cut out a door and add a home made hinge.

OK time to build a firebox

Add the reverse flow plate, I made it so it is removeable

Now for a exhaust damper handle

And this is what we have so far as of June 6, 1012

So far I have less than $50.00 in it, and hope to build it for less than $200.00. Most of the materials I have had given to me or were left over from other projects.

Stay tuned as more pics will be coming as I make progress. and I am open to ideas and changes so please by all means make a comment.

If I used enough F bombs to properly articulate how awesome I think that cooker is I would surely be banned.....

So cool!

It's debatable if it is necassary, but I felt it would have a better chance of even temps since it is a relatively small cooking area.

Thank you all for your comments. My weekend is packed so I'm not sure If I'll get to work on it. But I am looking forward to firing it, so I'm going to try to get some time to play with it.

I got some fenders off ebay for the rear wheels that I think will set this thing off. Also, I am planning a slide out cooking grate that may take a little time to fabricate.

K.A.M. I tried to look at your 1000 page post Shocked to see your build. I got several pages in and it is looking good, but haven't got all the way through yet. Smile But it looks awesome...

That is an awesome patio rig. I missed out on a free round propane tank on craigslist once. It will be good to hear how it cooks.

I finally got it done, just a couple things left to do. Wet sand and polish, and make a charcoal basket for the firebox.

I did a test cook

Then I had to make some modifications to the flow, the firebox side cooked about 15 deg hotter. So I created a little more heat flow. It was tough to dial this in, because the heat just circled its way around. but i finallly got it cooking very even.

OK NOW ShE is cooking even

Time to sand and paint

here is the lower exhaust damper

ALMOST DONE
