Just give the ribs a shake of rub just before or after you cut them up. Works real good if you glaze the ribs just once or twice to give that rub something to stick to.

That is pretty much what Memphis dry ribs is. Even the dry ribs get a coating of some sort of mop sauce when they are on the grill before that app of their rub.

Hi All
Well after trying 3 well known rib rubs I still can't taste the rub?
Funny thing is, a while back I used two McCormick's pork rubs and I tasted IT on the ribs.
Firs time before I got my smoker I did ribs in the oven and the rub taste was there.
Next time on my 1st smoke try with the McCormicks I still tasted the rub.
I was asumming that with these ward winning rubs, I would taste IT.
I do taste the brisket rub, that I purchased along with the rib rub.

Thanks DanB
PS Maybe after all these years (67) I losing my taste buds. Crying or Very sad

You may have B12 deficiency, sometimes caused by using too many antacids!

My Grandfather suffered with that for a couple of years, before he would let us get him into the doctor, and get his troubles sorted out.

His high usage of antacids, meant he could not taste any flavor, and to flavor his meals he would use two or three teaspoons of salt, and that meant he would retain water which would make his ankles swell, so he wouldn't move as much... etc. So if you are anywhere in that vicious circle, get yourself checked out as there may be serious things underlying the cause of it.

And we don't want to loose you... when we have just found you!

It could be that you are simply not sprinkling enough rub on your ribs. It is the only reason I can think of as to why you can taste the rub on a commercial establishment's ribs and not on yours using the same rub. The ribs should be good and red (from the paprika).

I'd say that Roxy has the right amount of rub on his ribs from pictures of his ribs on his posting here:

http://www.thesmokering.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=51419&start=0&postdays=0&postorder=asc&highlight=ribs+rub

...Or this posting:

Unlike Roxy, I usually don't add any mustard or oil to make the rub stick. I've found the rub sticks just fine without it.
