Posted: Aug 17 2012 Post subject: How a redneck makes a weber dome lid fit on a UDS smoker |
|
|
So my weber dome lid was no where close to fitting on my new barrel. I estimate that my barrel is about 3/4" larger than the weber
So here is how I "fixed" it
Lid before cutting
Attack w/ Angle Grinder
If you had a welding rig you could then weld it to the lid. In my case drill holes and put bolts through it. Then buz the excess bolt off with the angle grinder
Yay! Now it has a perfect factory fit.
Final step (not pictured) Hit the seam w/ RTV permatex silicone gasket maker (the 700 degree red stuff from advance auto) and then hit it with grill paint after it dries. _________________ Weber Performer

That, my friend, is Appalachian Engineering at it's finest! _________________ Knowledge is knowing a tomato is a fruit.

I would like to think it is Appalachian but our esteemed inventor has neglected to offer a clue to his/her whereabouts. Personally I am proud of my location and heritage. It is surprising how many posters choose to hide.
Not to mention that they may be forfeiting a chance to share knowledge, facilities, and material with local people of like interest. _________________ 150 gallon vertical

Just a thought... a metal cutting blade on a jigsaw would be a better choice than an angle grinder here... _________________ Weber Performer
