Not sure what to call these or if they are already called something. Anyway they were amazing and I cannot wait to make more of them. Basically you take a hot dog ( I used a Hot Link), wrap in ground beef or whatever meat you want, then wrap in bacon and throw on the cooker between 300-350 for about 30-40 min. Take off grill and throw on a bun and enjoy. I used some hickory wood chunks for extra flavor and also wrapped a slice of cheese in these. Enjoy and give them a shot one day, you will not be disappointed.
Some of the ingredients
Getting ready to wrap
Covered in meat
Wrapped in bacon
Done cooking
On a bun and cut in half for its picture
Hope you enjoyed.

Very nice!
Solves the problem of: "hamburgers or hot dogs?"
It's like a 2 for 1 ... and one less bun.

Thank you everyone for the compliments. The flavor was absolutely awesome. I did put some rub on them before the bacon went on. I am really liking the "Fatty Dogs" name. I think we should make it stick. You should all give this a try. It is real quick and easy. Thanks again and enjoy _________________ Chargriller Duo + SFB

There is already a name for this food item. It's called a Hamdog. I've made quite a few Hamdogs in my day, which is the only reason I know about them.
This is a little different from the original, but close enough. The original Hamdog is a hotdog wrapped in cheese, wrapped in beef, with onions, and bacon wrapped around it. Usually deep fried, then topped with chili, and a fried egg.
It originated as a eating contest item at Mulligan's in Georgia, which is where I first had one about 5 or 6 years ago.
I've never smoked one before, i'll definitely have to try it. I usually bake mine for 30 mins, then deep fry it. |
