Gentlemen I am trying to get an idea of what size grate works for what size hog. The hog in question is butterflied.
With the head
Without the head

50lb hog needs X by X size grate
100lb hog needs X by X size grate
150lb Hog needs X by X size grate
etc.

What size hogs are usually cooked for Competitions?

I cook 100+/- lb hogs racing style on about 3 x5 worth of my pit. (head on)

Did a 40lber that was butterflied, I'd say 3 x 4 (head off)

150lb should not take up that much more space than the 100. maybe 3.5 x 6.

there is plenty of wiggle room in that. 2x4 is probably more precise, but pigs can varry a bit. Also the don't make grate stretchers.
