So I'm sitting here watching Iron Chef - Goat episode tonight and wondering if anyone has smoked a goat? It doesn't look as big as a pig, so maybe it can be done on most off-set home smokers? My brother-in-law was always saying that he wanted to cook a goat after him seeing them hanging in the Philly Italian Market and knowing some Italian Americans who cook them during the holidays.
Any experience? Any tips? Any PHOTO'S?
curious...

I have eaten goat quite a few times, and I always enjoyed it. I don't see why it couldn't be smoked. _________________ large Big Green Egg

I did some reading online this evening. It seems that goat meat is classified at a white meat. It has more nutrients than chicken but less fat/cholesterol than mutton. Depending on the age of slaughter, the meat can range from mutton-like to venison-like. _________________ large Big Green Egg

It's funny you should bring up goat. At the cookout we did a couple of weeks ago in Conniwingo MD. The slaughter house had about 25 goat carcasses hanging in the back and I inquired is there a great demand for goat meat? And they told me they do 200-240 a week!!! I said who the heck is buying that many goats? They told me they ship from Fl.--NY
So if you happen to be in the market for one. It's not that far of a trip for you John. Mabey 45 min from the Bridge. And if you do Get one, let us know how it turns out! _________________ The only thing consistant in BBQ is, it is always the Judges fault!

I eat goat regularly, as I don't eat pork. I think smoking it may be a bit tricky as the meat can be tough if not cooked right. Maybe a "low and slow" smoking like one does for brisket, with a nice mop...could work, could work...! |

Low and slow does work well. 3-2-1 ribs works a treat too. |
