I am looking into buying a meat grinder to grind my own meat and probably try some sausage making too. The Weston seems like a decent unit ??

Thoughts ?

Dan

Dan,

I think this is the comparable unit to LEM's version.....575 Watt unit, about $100? I believe there are a few guys on this forum using them (Jarhead was one I think, but I don't see him much anymore). IIRC, they were a decent unit for a person who doesn't make tons of sausage. I have the LEM version, and it is fine for me. Most times I can barely keep up with the feeding of the meat. I would say if you are making less than 20 pounds of sausage, and not doing it everyday, you would be fine. I don't think you can get hurt on this one.

I do think you are money ahead by spending more on a stuffer. I have LEM's 5lb unit with metal gears and stuffing tubes, and wish I had a bigger unit(and I don't make sausage that often). I don't think you can quite fit 5lbs in it, and being able to do 10 or 15 would be very nice.

Cheers,
Ed

I too have the LEM #8 which is about the same. Great grinder that is very hard to keep up with.
