Hello,
I can spend up to $1200 on a new or used machine. What would you look for on craigslist? What would you buy new? That sticky thread is helpful, thank you!
Read through some posts and most budgets were about 500 or less. Am I getting more machine than I will ever use at 1200? I really would like to avoid upgrading later if i stick with it.
Not trying to start a side business. I expect to make a few UDS baskets, odd and end things around the house, a fence, grill, thickest being a propane offset. Will need to be able to weld stainless.
I know nothing about welding, but will put time in to learn the fundamentals. |

I agree with K.A.M. All I have is the 140.
If you purchase from Tractor Supply there is a 10% off coupon for the 4th of July. |

Hahaha. The only reason is that was the topic Blazer. Now if JasonZ had said he was looking at either a stick or a wire feed that 210 Hobart would've never entered my mind. _________________ Always remember slow and steady wins the race.

Mike, the Lincoln is gas capable it will run stainless wire, all you have to do is change your gas mix and buy a spool of stainless wire.
The machine is worth the money if it performs, I would at least make sure it works before purchasing it.
Here is a review I found on it.

Ok, thanks. The spec sheet from Lincoln didn't mention it. If you weren't here to keep me straight then I'd definitely be running amuck. _________________ My current cookers: 80 gallon vertical tank

The thermal arc 181 is less than $1000 and gets good reviews.
It does mig, arc and tig.
The arc is very convenient to do outside work and only weighs 32lbs. |

Stainless can be stick welded as well as MIG and TIG. Be sure to match the grade of stainless with your wire, otherwise you can get cracks as the weld cools. MIG welding stainless works best with a tri-mix of three gases, argon, helium and co2 I beleive, in spray-transfer mode (your arc will hiss instead of sputtering).
I'm a Miller guy myself, in the shop here I've got a 251 for MIG and a Syncrowave 450 for stick and TIG. Awesome tools to have. |
