I have been working on this build more off than on for a while now. Work has been crazy, quite a bit of travel, and trailer builds last fall and spring were crazy busy with the lawn care guys.
Came across some 24" and 22" pipe a while back and have it stored out back. I have a couple banks and a church interested in seeing one of my builds mobile and Ive been dying to put a cooker on a trailer. I have a pretty good supply of tubing drops from other builds and projects, so had no reason not to get one going.
My scrap pile, a good chunk of 22" pipe 3/8" wall that I found on Craigslist for $100 and an ample supple of 2x4 and 2x2 tubing.
A 56" long piece of 24" pipe 1/4" wall and a sheet of 1/4" plate.
Chamber up on the roller to weld the ends on.
Ends welded up and firebox attached.
Putting a grill inside the firebox, so cut the top side out of the fb.
Framed out the opening for the grill top, all the pieces tacked in place.
Welding it out. Was nice to be able to roll the pipe around and get better access for easier welding.
All welded up.
Got the lid cut out and it sang and popped and banged the whole time.
Sat the lid back in place and it was way off, it had sprung quite a bit. Ive had enough experience with this to know what I was going to do pretty quick. Yep, change of plans, now were going to a square face build.
Cut out a little more of the topside of the chamber.
Starting framing out a square face.
Quality control was on site a lot for this process.
Had a nice day of weather, so got the trailer built. 5x10 with a 3500lb axle set as far back as she would go.
Made a couple saddles to mount the cooker to the trailer.
Kind of a sketchy at best process, but got the cooker picked up and sat on the trailer, in place and welded down.
Wanted to get the firebox moving along. Cut a grate that will sit below the lid to put charcoal on instead of starting a fire in the box if not needed.
Cut some vent holes in some 1/4" plate.
Quality making sure its being done right.
I did put him to work knocking out plugs.
A lift out handle and some expanded metal to keep the charcoal from falling through.
Sitting in place in the firebox.
Didn't have enough space on the end door to cut out my intakes without messing with the integrity of the door, so decided to put the intakes on the side of the fb.
Getting it framed out.
Framed out with the slide done, will finish the right side frame work after it gets sand blasted.
Closed
Open
Got the end door for the firebox done as well.
The charcoal grate for the firebox. Went with a concept Kevin is running on his cooker and ran with it.
Had a nice day out and a buddy that had some free time, so it was time to add the flooring on the trailer. Got a 5x10 piece of tread plate from my steel supplier that had been damaged when they unloaded it. Minimal work to bring in back into shape and a great price...$50
Called in a favor and had some 1/4" 1x3 angles made. Welded a flate plate to the angle framework and made the lid for the firebox/grill. Attached it with some barrel hinges.
Handles on the front.
Took a piece of 3" pipe and quartered it to make a stop.
Filling in the gaps.
Finished out.
Grate is built and sitting in place.
So it has been a Wreckless style quick build up to this point Where she is sitting at now has been a year or better in the making. I have a little more free time right now with work and travel, so Im going to try and hit this thing hard the next month or so and get it close to done. I need to finish the doors and grates for the chamber and the chamber and firebox will be done. I plan some dry storage and worktop area, a dual burner set up and some wood storage along with an area to put a couple fold up tables.

Awesome work Troy. Nice trailer build. Like the grill. Nice to have the knowledge to know when to make changes on the fly when a door springs. Very nice work. Hope your supervisor approves of the changes. |

Nicely done TrailerBuilder, your fabrication skills are top notch. I am looking forward to more updates! Your trailer size is similar to my build and I hope to get some ideas from your layout. _________________ 250 Gallon Trailer Build |

It was good to re-live the build up to now Brother.
The phone pics do not do her justice, she looks awesome.
I am glad to see you found some use for that old scrap angle iron that was laying around. _________________ Always remember slow and steady wins the race.

He has to come get the paint. The rig has wheels, we'll head on over to Vidor after the paint dries. Kevin has the $$ for the meat market from all their award prize winnings. Just show up. _________________ Backyarder

My Man Chuck, Thank You Brother! Good to see you snooping around some.
Thanks Mike, that's a k.a.m. concept that I ran with.
Thank You Paul, anything you see off of my build you want, just take it, lord knows Ive borrowed a few of your concepts _________________ X2 Finished Build

Got a little bit of work done on the project over the Christmas break and the first few days of January. Was hoping work would slow down the first couple months of the new year and I could get this thing done and gone, but doesn't look like that will be the case, hopefully this project wont draw out much longer.
Got the grates built, did a full length grate on the bottom and split 2 on the top. I wanted this cooker to be able to do whole hogs if wanted.
With the split grates, I ran tubing down from the topside of the chamber for supports.
QC approved
Got the doors hung and the handles and latch done.
Kicked the latch around some with what I wanted to do. Tried a couple things and didn't like, so I went pretty simple. Custom made some pieces and attached to the handle rod. The metal comes up right under the top grates and tightens in place.
Im hoping this weekend I can start getting a dual burner and some dry storage area framed out and built. All depends on work I suppose
