You guys have a source to order metal online? My nearest place is over an hour. I don't mind that drive if i'm getting large quantities but hate making that drive for only a few sticks of something. Be nice to just order it if the price is still reasonable.
Thanks

Shipping would never be cost effective, plan wisely before you go to pick it up. I have never heard of anyone offering it really. What type of metal are you looking for?

Nothing in particular. For instance last night i realized I needed a piece of 1.5" flat stock steel. Don't want to have to drive an hour for that.

I agree with Animal. In your case looking for the occasional piece would not be cost effective having it drop shipped. I would look around at future products then buy in bulk and stock pile material. The money spent up front will most likely pay for the shipping charges you would incur.
There is a local hardware store here that sells by the foot. I can buy a 20' piece at the steel yard for what 3' cost me there.

I typically have about an hours drive as well for bottom dollar / best price new steel as well, I use them when I am able to buy in bulk. While I cannot speak for your area, I do have 2 different metal salvage / scrap yards in 2 towns within about a 10 min drive. They both offer new steel, angle, plate, strap, bar stock, ex metal, etc. One has about a 140% mark-up of full on steel yard, they are open half day on Saturday, the other about 110% mark-up, not open on Saturday. Depends on my needs and desperation of not having completed my order from my bulk vendor, I have used them many times. Perhaps if you have not looked into a local salvage, consider it. It beats the HD or Lowe's slim high$$ offerings and moreso an online vendor. I would only use an online as a specialty steel, small order purchase.

I would be at a loss if I didn't have next day delivery for standard material. It's $150 minimum from my aluminum supplier, 200 300 LB min from my steel supplier.

http://www.discountsteel.com

I have never ordered from this company online but they are my #1 source for material at their location in Fort Worth, TX. Excellent selection, quality, customer service and price.

I have ordered quite a bit of material from Discountsteel.com
Prices are good and delivery is not too expensive. For special items like DOM pipe/tube that are a special order from my local supplier anyway, Discountsteel gets it to me quicker and for about the same cost.
