Well.. spent 45 minutes this morning looking for my ET73 and finally found it. My wife tends to rearrange quite often and had put it with my gardening stuff. Got it hooked up on the kettle to some venison summer sausage that I'm making and all was well. Checked on it a few times and then all of a sudden the receiver wasn't working. Replaced batteries and nothing. Tore it apart and found some corrosion on the board. I could get it to come off for short stints while putting pressure on it.. finally just through it in the trash. I think I got about ten years out of it so I guess it did it's job. It's always been kept indoors while not in use.
Either way.. I'm on the market for a replacement. Any recommendations? I was hoping to find something that would connect via wifi so that I could view the pit remotely while away from the house via my smartphone. Basically the same way my home heat/air controller works through the phone. If not, something similar to what I had would be nice. Longer range would be a plus as well. |

Personally I would just get another ET-73. I run two and love them. _________________ Always remember slow and steady wins the race.

I have had good luck with my ET-73 until last week....the pit probe took a crap...
still happy with the way it performs and will just order a replacement probe. _________________ Horizon Offset (Marshall RD Special)

I like the better range of the 732. There are some nice WiFi thermos out there but the better ones are a bit pricey. I'd stay away from the Bluetooth jobs as they all seem flaky and the range is terrible. |

After having gone through 2 ET-732s and a number of probes, I would rather not buy a new one.
I would also be curious about what better options there are -on did Chinese Gordon's wifi thermometer ever work? |

My reason is #1 price difference.
The thermaQ is not a remote unit and it cost over $200.00
I guess I am lucky with my ET-73's. They cost around 39.00 my oldest is around 7 yrs old and I have probably replaced the probes around three maybe five times. _________________ Always remember slow and steady wins the race.

And I thought I was the only one who got the joke regarding his chosen Western pseudonym!

Mornin' Robert!
You may have well been the only one who got that joke...I certainly didn't!
I thought it was derived from this...

If you have looked into them, I would be interesting in learning what you have found. |

I only took a cursory glance at some. BBQGuru has a system with a small blower. Tappecue has one that looked interesting. Other than those I can't remember.
I should stop by the Gurus and check them out. They are in the next industrial park over from my shop. |
