I have been using Hobart .035" ER70S-6 wire with good results but am curious what the rest of you are using and/or recommend. _________________ 250 Gallon Trailer Build |

I'm in the category of being a recreational / hobbyist and not knowing any better I usually ask for recommendations at the LWS. I'm running a Millermatic 212 and they always put me on WeldCote .030 wire. I've asked several times about using an .035 gauge but they are pretty adamant about staying with the .030. Not having anything to compare with I can't say the WeldCote is better or worse than anybody else. _________________ My current cookers: 80 gallon vertical tank

Thanks for your input Mike. I'm pretty much in the same boat except with .035. Most of my welding is pretty thick stuff so I just stay with it on everything. Is the WeldCote you are running ER70S-6 or something else? _________________ 250 Gallon Trailer Build |

I use the ER70S-6 .035" as well. Can't recall the brand, it has actually been several depending on availability at my LWS. I am running the .035 mostly because it fits my needs and more importantly it is what my drive rolls are tho I do have the option of flipping them to run .030. Most work is on BBQ cookers ( Naturally ). I did discover when doing a dump trailer conversion to a gooseneck pull that I really should have considered spending the $$ and going with an .045" wire. Running the gun at the 1/4" and 5/16 feed and heat settings for any length of time had the gun smoking in quick order. Overhead was close to impossible, just asking to much out of that size wire. Same goes for the other end of the spectrum. If I were to be fabbing 1/8 tubing, angle, and or plate for any length of time, I would consider stepping down to the .030. Too much heat on one end, too much wire on the smaller stuff. Using a mig just does not carry some of the advantages of running stick.

FlyingJ, its there own brand.
I have the HTP 2400 welder , best machine I've ever owned!
There mig wire , in my opinion is heads above any other wire on the market.
Home Depot here , a 10# spool of .035 flux core I'd $ 70. And change.
USA Welding , when I order 2 10# rolls throw in free shipping.
I ordered wire last Friday morning, had it in my hands noon Monday. |
