I'm starting a new build out of a 500 Gal propane tank. RF , stick burner. What distance needs to be between the baffle and top of bottom rack? How thick should metal for the baffle be?
Thank in advance for all information.

I would use 1/4" plate for the R/F plate.
I prefer 3" to 5" between the R/F plate and the top of the lower grate with a 1" fall from the firebox.
I hope this helps. Very Happy

blueridgesmoke When I built mine I went with KAM 's suggestion and I have about 4 1/2 " and it seems to work great.

Hi I'm also busy building my cooker but an offset with tuning plates and I'm using what K.A.M suggested to me same as above but without the 1" fall as its not needed in my because of the tuning plates. Hope this help.
