Hey smokers, newby to forum and smokers. Have done all the calculations to build a patio rf smoker made out of a beer keg14.37 inch dia and 19 inch length.my issue is with the baffle pkate gap, I read that the baffle plate gap is the same area as the firebox/cook chamber opening.
I calculated the width of the rf plate 10.579inch
Firebox/cc opening 12.325 sqin
Therefore rf gap based on plate widrh is 1.165 inch.

Does this sound about right, is this gap too small?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Im an aussie and im use to working in metric

I am guessing you are referring to the opening on the opposite side of the firebox where the heat/smoke makes its turn back to the exhaust. If this is true and your plate is 10.579 wide and your gap is 1.165 that gives you an area of 12.324. You are just under the recommended and should be fine.
I hope this helps. Very Happy
