Something like a build thread would be hard to follow on the FB format. Or anything that lasts more then a day.

Facebook has become an option, yes. But not everyone has moved there. There are many website based groups, such as this one, that are still highly successful.

This one was simply abandoned by the admin & allowed to die a slow death.

I check in every so often to see if there have been any changes...but always get the big let down when the site opens up.
A lot of the cool kids hang out at different forums.....
http://www.texasbbqforum.com/
http://weberkettleclub.com/forums/

here are a couple that I know of.

Forums all over the internet have slowed down or died. People are using reddit, Facebook, etc more but good ol forums are still the best medium to gather, share and search for knowledge on niche topics. What I’ve found is that when their are multiple forums related to a niche topic, the members that are really into it will gravitate to one or 2 places over time while a ton of members lose interest or feel like they’ve learned all they want to learn and stop posting.
It sucks but the same thing has happened to many things over the years such as chat rooms, MySpace, town hall meetings, etc.

niche forums

This place http://aluminumalloyboats.com/index.php?sid=c2164b36e8bd319af22657fa11afaa0e has basically laid to waste.

Not many boat building forums and even fewer aluminum boat building forums.

I haven't been here in a while for whatever reason. Funny I stop in and this is the first thread I read.

Not that I ever posted much, but I am one of the guilty ones who kinda stopped posting, especially after the Photobucket thing....

I do miss the regulars and their posts and comments. I learned alot, and continue to do so. I wanna try to make some bacon, and if I get adventurous, maybe even sausage. Kinda hesitant because of the whole curing thing. I don't have a scale and I do know I have to be really careful with measuring.

Hope to see more of everyone in 2019.... Pass the word....

RiskDude.

Probably has a lot to do with being harassed every time you post a picture here. Too many other places where you don't get grief from contributing to a site. Laughing

It was a big factor for me right from the begining. In order to post I had to have duplicates of every picture on Photobucket. One to reside on Photobucket and one resized to post here. It was a hassle and took entirely to much of my time.

Be nice to see someone take this site over. Update it to a more user friendly format and bring it back to life. This has got to be one of the original BBQ forums around.

I'd volunteer seeing as I'm now retired and have the time but i could barely figure out how to post pictures here much less update the entire format.

Just stuck my head in to see what is going on. I have been a bit busy doing safety with the oil boom. Just about ready to retire and do some more pitmaster classes and maybe publish that BBQ book.

Yep, still stop in once in a while to see what's happening.

I think it's like most hobby forums, a guy get's hooked for a while, then something else grabs their interest. I still smoke some stuff, but don't sit and think about building the next smoker like I used to.

If this site does fold, I hope there is a bit of warning...I'll take the time to download all the recipes. There are still a lot I haven't tried yet.

I"m a member of several of the Facebook bbq pages, but that style form is very different from web site based forums like this one.

I will say that a good web site based forum is BBQ Bretheren. It's not perfect...none of them are...but it isn't bad.
