Looking for someone with information on what I have to do to be legal to cook for the public in Escambia County Florida. All the websites I have been to are very vague. Any help would be greatly appreaciated.

I would just give your local health department a call. Sometime the websites do not make alot of sense and everything is different from County to County (or State to State).

We recently had no idea what to do to comply with the Health Department and looked over another county (the county in which Birmingham is in, Jefferson, I live in Shelby) and everything was spelled out.

When we called the Shelby H.D. and talked to them we learned we only needed to work with them if we sold as a vendor directly to the public.

So just give them a call and I am sure they will answer all of your questions.

In Florida it is the State Bureau of Professional Regulation. http://www.myflorida.com/dbpr/hr/index.html

We just went through the same thing in Florida and kept finding out that people don't have a clue. The best resource that we found was the guy that was coming out to do our commercial kitchen inspection. He helped more than all the others put together. He was from the Bureau of Prof. Regulation. Your local one is:

District 6 - Panama City Beach
7946 Front Beach Road
Panama City Beach, Florida 32407-4817
Counties: Bay, Calhoun, Escambia, Franklin, Gadsden, Gulf, Holmes, Jackson, Jefferson, Leon, Liberty, Madison, Okaloosa, Santa Rosa, Taylor, Wakulla, Walton, Washington

You'll have to either go there or try to find their phone number.

We do catering & festival vending and so have to have a catering license. Working part-time on this, it took us about a month and a half to get all the licenses, permits, insurance, inspections, etc.

Good luck! Smile
