I live in the Wichita, Kansas area and want to know a good way to get Hickory, Mesquite and Apple wood logs for a big smoker.

Not chunks or chips, but split logs.

Best bet is to call up a local tree trimmer or tree removal service and tell them what you are looking for and ask when they have any to give you a call. Also helps to promise them some BBQ Cool

Depending on the work you want to do - it might help to say you will come get it from the site and or cut it up.

Either way they are a great source for good wood.

Nearest spot I would know of would be Academy in Tulsa. You can get 1.5 cubic foot bags of mesquite, hickory, and pecan for $9.99.

Link

No idea on apple.

You're getting a pretty decent deal. The Academy store in East Baton Rouge carries the 1.5 cubic foot bags from W W Wood, and not the 2 cu ft bags from Barbecue Wood Flavors that the Academy web site shows - but the're $9.99 even with the smaller size. Sad

Are there no Tree guys around you? I get my wood from a local tree guy and he brings me a dump truck load of Hickory and cherry for 100.00

It's up to me to stack and sort. But have never gotton a bad batch or mixed up wood yet. Course I make sure I drop off some BBQ on my way to his house to order the wood!! Cool Cool Cool

I just purchased some from a guy in Valley Center. He sells it how ever you want to buy it. I think the name was woodchuck firewood.

you might want to check craigslist.com... I found some great smoking wood from a furniture maker... take their scraps of clean, kiln dried hardwoods.
