Having a Big 'ol BBQ bash this labor day and need some drink ideas. I'm plenty comfortable with the meat part, but I always neglect the drinks. Apparently people like to wash their food down with a liquid. I like the idea of making a big batch of something that will put my people in a happy place (Yes, that means adding alcohol).
I've done what I like to call a Django (sweet tea and bourbon, named after the movie because thats where I heard about it).
Any ideas or favorite drinks would sure be appreciated. I'll be using a drink barrel I guess you could call it where people just scoop out the drink with a ladel (the spout things always get clogged, such a pain).

Thanks.

Rocky Mountain Punch (adapted from "Imbibe" by Woodrich) and likely originated in the 1880's.

I have made this punch for a holiday party with very good results. You will need a punch bowl, ladle and block ice.

Ingredients:
3 bottles sparkling wine (I used Cava ... not expensive and not sweet)
600ml of dark rum (I used Goslings Black Seal ... I don't think gold rum is tasty enough for this)
300ml of Maraschino liqueur (Luxardo is the brand and unfortunately it is expensive)
4 Lemons
Sugar to taste
Seasonal fruit (oranges, apples, pears etc)

I took a portion of the seasonal fruit and all the lemons, mulled them a bit in the rum, Luxardo and 3 to 5 Tbl sugar (taste dependent) and let them sit overnight. Just before serving I put the block ice in the punch bowl, and added the Cava and mulled fruit with rum/Luxardo by pouring over the block ice. I then added the additional sliced fruit.

Let me know if my instructions are incoherent. This happens to me a lot. Cheers!

I've hosted a number of parties. The mixed drink rotates.

The hands down favorite is Mojitos. They go REALLY well with BBQ

However, it's a crapload of work to muddle them one at a time unless you try something like this:

http://martieknows.squarespace.com/blog/2011/7/2/cocktails-for-a-crowd-mojitos-made-with-mint-simple-syrup.html

Since it's premade, you could set up a Mojito making area. Post the recipe, prep all the ingredients, etc. Restock occasionally.

Good luck,
Cap

My friends & I call these lemon surprises.

Equal parts Bacardi Limon, Tom Collins mix, & club soda.

They taste like & go down like lemonade. Twisted Evil
