Honestly I thought our ribs were terrible, and I thought everything else turned out really good. Of course, we had our only call in ribs. I joked with my teammate that I am going to start making everything taste like crap so that we might actually win one of these things.

Here are some pictures:

This passed right over our heads. It wasnt rotating but looked very peculiar as it approached.

Just some shots around. Sorry, they really arent very good.

And our turn ins. Please post opinions.

15th place chicken

9th place ribs. I do not like this box, but was running out of time.

11th place pork. Funny how one judge gives you 9's and another gives you 5's

12th place brisket.

Funny how judges score 9's and 5's- Yes ! just not funny haha... Rolling Eyes Congrats on the call ! I'd say add some more parsley, fill up the sides more and you'd be lookin' good ! That sauce looks savory .. Very Happy ...and that cloud !! Shocked Damn.....glad it wasn't "mean" ! Thanks for the pics

The scores were very odd for everybody. I just read that the guy who got GC got a 999 from one judge and a 555 from another.

Love the color and glaze on your ribs. I am surprised you did not place higher in ribs, but I can't judge on taste and texture. Wished I could though!

I've judged a few contest now and not everyone is certified. Some of the judges are just people off the street. I just judged a contest in Missouri and the person at my table didn't have a clue as to what we were even looking for. (Food wise or turn in box) It was his 1st contest and he wasn't certified. I don't think it's fair for the teams we judged.

Hey mds2, you finished in the top ten and a place ahead of Fast Eddy... not too shabby at ALL considering that field of players! CONGRATULATIONS!

Yeah, that made me pretty happy, and ahead of the Texas Rib Rangers and some really good local teams too.

But I would have switched Fast Eddy spots. He got two top 3 calls and won over a grand.

I'm still loving the sauce though.

Congrats on the calls!

I'll call Eddie, but I don't think he'll do it (probably already cashed the checks)

I got you and Sa-Mokin beat. Tulsa, last time I competed, had about 75 teams.

Got one call, 4th in Chicken.

Finished 3rd (out of 75) and only got the one check.

Got 11th in 2 other categories and 14th in the other.

That's why I'm not coming back to Tulsa guys, overall money needs to come up.

Maybe next year I'll drive to Nebraska. Would love to take some Cornhusker $$$.

There actually has been a lot of discussion about increasing the prize money more for the overall and less for the categories. I'm certainly in favor of that.

Very Happy

This contest had tons of prize money, especially for being a first year contest. $15,000. The really weird thing is that they didnt pay for reserve, just 1st through 5th in each category and GC.

I still had a good time though, and it was only about 3 miles from my house so I didnt spend any money on fuel.

Man! Wish I would have been able to make that contest! Was asked to judge but my daughters birthday was that day.

mds2 - Are you going to be at the Bellevue contest in July?

And congrats!

Not sure about that one yet. I am going to be in Eagle on the 11th though.

Just curious.....

What kind of flavor do the judges prefer in NE?

Around here it seems to be sweet, while in other parts of the country seems to be vinegar.

Sweet here too. I have never tried anything vinegary.

This is a first year contest. I'm trying to decided if we are going to do peoples choice or not, but I am still waiting to hear the details from the organizer. On the entry from it says that you cant setup until 3:00 on friday and the people's choice awards are at 8:00 on friday. that doesnt give me enough time to setup, cook, and serve.

That is a short time line.

If you don't mind me asking, what do you do for the people's choice?
