Jarhead’s BBQ Baked Beans

Recipe:
5 one lb. cans of Ranch Style Beans w/Jalapenos
1/4lb. thick-sliced Farmland Bacon (4 strips)
1/4 cup maple syrup or (1/4 tsp maple flavoring)
1 cup packed Brown Sugar
1 cup chopped Sweet Onion
1/4 cup Grandma’s Original Molasses
1/4 cup Heinz Ketchup
1/4 cup Apple Cider Vinegar
4 Tbs prepared French’s Yellow Mustard

Partially cook bacon in a medium cast iron Dutch oven to render some fat. Add coarsely chopped onions and sauté until tender.
Mix in remaining ingredients and simmer in a covered grill for about an hour, or until the excess liquid simmers off. Move the pan to indirect heat (opposite the coals) and then cover the grill for an additional hour, or until the beans are just the way you like to eat them.

This was in the Bandera about 5 hours.

Thank you Chris. They have a great flavor. I've also done them with pork 'n' beans too. I didn't think it was as good as the Ranch Style.

The last couple of times I have made baked beans I have used the ranch style beans as in this recipe.(rather than the reg canned pork + beans)

And this (ROCKS) You all have to try this recipe. Its almost the same as mine.

Thanks Mike, I'm with you on the Ranch Style Beans. Much better flavor and texture.

I'm going to give this recipe a shot tomorrow for a Fathers Day smoke. One question for anyone who has tried it, how spicy? My wife is a bit of a whimp. I'm just wondering if I need to substitue a couple cans of ranch beans without the jalapenos?

She can handle most mild salsa's. Anything I would consider medium or hot she won't eat.

Thanks! Can't wait to try them!

Hello Gus, Welcome aboard.
No problem on the substitution, it will be really mild for the "Whimps Rolling Eyes ". You might want to dust it with some of your rub to kick it up a bit.
Let me know how it goes.
Good luck in you cook and Happy Father's Day to ya.
Just made some today for a benefit for one of our members at Post 639, and fed over 100 people. I went with the straight beans and let them adjust their own heat.
But, I will post that tomorrow in the General Area, too tired to do it right now.

thanks for the recipe jarhead, everyone liked the beans, the only changes I made was I only used 4 cans of beans and I didn't get the jalapeno version so I diced some fresh jalapenos and put them in and it was also 100% smoked while I was doing the brisket Smile
