My son-in-law has been wanting a UDS and his brother wants one like Mrs.K.A.M.'s so today I built the
easy one and the others will follow. #3 will be mine and I will probably build it simple as well.
The cooker without the therms.

And with the therms in place.

The inside you can see the therm is positioned just under the grate bolt, there are also clips for a water
pan just below the second grate.

The charcoal basket and removal tool.

I built removable flanges for the pipe caps and ball valves.

I'd have to say that is pretty simple. Now we need some action pics.

The two plates and the square provide space to keep the lit charcoal from pre starting the unlit charcoal.

By starting the fire at one end of his maze, and allowing it to burn around the square to the other side he can also refuel if he wants by adding new fuel to the ashed side and continue to cook round the square clock!

Thank You bomb'n bbq, Very Happy I thought he might need something to pull the basket out and came
up with the double hook for stability.

Thank You Hillbillyhellcat, Very Happy I am going to build some simple legs for it when the weather lets up
and then my son-in-law will fire it up this weekend.

Thank You Teleking, Very Happy It is hard for me not to over build things its in my oilfield blood.

Thank You Chuck, Very Happy There is a member that paints all his cookers red. I cant remember his name,
but I think the drum will look good red so red it is. Very Happy

Thank You BigPhil32, Very Happy I am trying. Laughing

Thank You SoEzzy. Very Happy

Thank You Cody, Very Happy One will be almost like Mrs.K.A.M.'s and the other , well I have not fully decided yet. Smile

Thank You longbowben, Very Happy You wont regret building one. And when the new wears off of the all nighters
on the stick burner you will love the UDS even more. Smile

Tombigbeeriverdawg, I got this idea from Hell Fire Grill. He created this to see how it would perform in a UDS.
I built one for Mrs.K.A.M.'s UDS and love the control it gives me over the temps. As SoEzzy explained it keeps
the fuel burning in a circle rather than in and out.

Thank You patruns, Very Happy The drums are regular steel. Two of them are new and one is old.

Thank You Smokenstein, Very Happy I build those so if they need to move to another drum there is only drilling to be done.

Thank You Shannon. Very Happy

Thats what i thought K.A.M.
I am using an old disc blade as my ash pan. The top of it is @ 2" off the bottom of the barrel.
Do you think if I have the bottom of the basket a 1/2" above that it would be ok?
Intake holes are 2" center line.
Thanks

Tombigbeeriverdawg, I would give myself more room between my grate and ash pan. You might have a problem with the ash building up under the grate. I welded a 1/8'' thick circle to the bottom of legs on the basket, there is 3'' clearance between the pan and grate.
