I thought about buying a friend some Bear Paws for Christmas but read some reviews saying the claws started to melt pretty easily. Does anyone make them of metal or any melt resistant material? Thanks.

Did the reviewer leave them in the oven? I've not had any problem with mine even starting to look like they are melting.

The people writing the reviews might have 1 to many hits off the crack pipe. Shocked

Never heard of such a thing..

All I know is what they said...

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Bear PAWS Meat Handles
I ordered two pair of bear claws for use in pulling pork. Each pair lasted less than five minutes. The tips of the fingers melted almost immediately. They are marketed for handling meat not for pulling pork. I seriously doubt if they would last very long if you use them to handle several pieces of meat in a short time frame. I believe they will soften and the tips will bend sideways as they did when I tried to use them for pulling pork.

I tried to pull a pork shoulder using these bear paws after smoking it and letting it rest for 20 minutes. But as soon as I started pulling, the tips of the claws started melting. What good are they if they can't handle typical cooking temperatures? Also, the back of the paws/claws are made up of a network of voids that are very dificult to clean. Save your money and look for some steel ones.

Had mine for over 5 years now and never a hint of them melting, the only problem I've had is cleaning out the open backside of the claw.

I tend to read the Amazon reviews with a wary eye. I think some reviewers will b*tch and moan, just because they like to. Other, more positive reviews did mention "some" bending. But looking at the rating graph overall, 85% of 51 reviews gave the Paws 4-5 stars.
Even tho some of the Ringers providing feedback here are members of the LIARS CLUB, I think they are lying about being liars. Laughing
I'd order a pair today, but I'm waiting on Santa. Wink

I had experienced a slight amount of bending at the tips, and it didn't affect the performance one bit. I just filed/sanded the weaker tip portion down a bit to the thicker/stronger meat of the paw...problem solved Wink

I bet those reviews came from a competitor that sells metal paws.
k.a.m. uses his every time to pick the meat up and to pull it.
After he's done the cutting board has scratch marks.
No melting going on here Very Happy

Maybe the ones that are melting are cheap immitations?

Me, I just use some cotton gloves cover in food service globes and my fingers never melt. Cheaper too.

Sorry I call BS on this one.

My day job is in plastic injection molding.

So, I spent a little time each day injecting LHPE and HDPE.

How Freaking HOT was the PORK???

I have had some for a couple of years and never a prob. They might have left them on the fire box or in the smoker the whole time the butts were cooking but other than that I say prove it.I will say I bought them for pulling pork and to me they don't work that well for me,I have faster ways.they are great for lifting the butts out of the smoker though.and I would fill the opening in the handles with food grade silicon.

My wife got me a couple of bear paws last year. Could not get them to work, and nearly got killed. Didn't know they were suppose to be detached and the bear fought me the whole time. Very Happy Seriously I have had a pair for years and never had a problem with melting or bending. Hardly use them anymore though. Take the butt to 200-205, rest for 20 minutes and I pull with heat resistant gloves on. Much faster.

Come on, I know better than that. lol Top rack and our washer doesn't have a heated dry cycle. It does heat the water really hot though.
I was really surprised that they did that to be honest.
