I don't have any interest right now, just browsing different brands of welders and dreaming. Hopefully next spring I'll be taking some welding classes and be on my way to a fun hobby.
I've just noticed 90% of the talk on here is between licoln and miller, wondered if anyone knows anything on ESAB.

Thanks,
Adam

Agrund, My work uses ESAB exclusively on plasma cutters. They seem to be decent machines. I have a Thermal Dynamics plasma and I will say I like it a lot better than the ESAB's at work. The torch handle on my Thermal is smaller and easier to grip and control. Of course with a welder, I bleed Miller Blue all the way.I think all in all, any of the name brand welders and cutters are good machines. I know at my local Airgas store, I can walk in and test run any welder or plasma cutter whenever I want. Check with your local dealer and use a couple different machines. For the typical weekend fabricator, a nice machine will last a lifetime. My dad always said that all the machines where basically the same and that you just had to be comfortable with your machine and use what feels best. I cant say that I 100% percent agree (sorry dad) that all are the same, but I do think the machine that is the most comfortable for you to control and handle will be the machine that suits you best.

Just my 2c worth.
