Sure looks to me like his box was accepted in the end; but I'll bet we all need to hear "the rest of the story" before making final judgments...

It is only fair to the others that his be DQ'd. They all had the same amount of time to turn in their box and missing the time is missing the time. If you accept the 1 second late box do you then take the 15 second late box? What time is then considered late and unacceptable?

Oh....that sucks.

But I agree, time is time, and late is late. I am surprised they even took it.

Well Ill never understand WHY teams wait till the last second for their turnin..?

When I spend all day trying to get a BBQ entry to be the best I can cook on that contest day...Then run the Risk of a DQ, for handing it in late..?
As a cook, thats the Last thing I want worry about at a contest..

Most cooks meetings, They announce the official time, so all teams have the same info..
Can see this oversight by new teams, new to competition..but experienced
Teams..??

I've been on both sides of the turn in table, and you'd be surprised how often it does happen though, even on the chicken entries, (when they are first).

The bigger annoyance though not in this case is when you have enough teams for a qualifier, (just), and someone doesn't make turn ins, it can make the whole contest a none qualifier and then everyone looses out.

some folks are saying they should accept and score the box with all 1's to help eliminate the issue with qualifiers...

that said, I have seen lots of folks doing the walk of shame at contests...but I guess you wouldnt see it if they accepted the box for and scored it accordingly.

In 09 a buddy of mine had his box accepted by the rep then returned for being late. On the point sheet he got all 0s .I just looked it up to make sure. They took the box into the tent then a few minutes later the rep walked it back out to him.

So what are the rules for qualifers? Do all teams have to compete in all 4 categories or they don't count as an entered team?

Even if a team is DQ'd in one category, they still competed, they just end up with 0's and no chance of GC.

If there are just the qualifying number of teams at the contest, and a team fails to turn in or gets DQ'd then the contest ceases to be a Qualifier... at least as far as the KCBS competitions go!

I was at a contest where there were the needed 25 teams, 25 turned in chicken 24 turned in ribs, (late by 15 seconds at the turn in table), 25 turned in pork and brisket, but it was not a qualifier for the Royal or the Jack!

Why? you still had 25 teams entered, paid and competed.

Did they change the criteria? I remember when they implemented the min. team number to be a qualifer. It was based on the number of teams that actually competed, not how many competed in all 4 categories.
Now if a team did show up, then they didn't count.
