Thank you Chris, I have not heard of "ally" (I'm a rookie welder), can you explain what it is and where I can get some? The welding on the drum part is about done, but I would like to try this out for the next time I weld thin material.

I'm still under the weather and now my little one has it
I started polishing my welds on this cooker because I was getting to know my 211 and my welds were looking bad.
Now me and my 211 are better friends, but I kinda got to continue the polishing so it looks right. I like to add metal and shape welds on thick stuff, but the thin stuff isn't my bag. I think Bruce is getting tired of buying consumables
It's fun learning on his dime!

Poor Bruce had no idea what he was getting into!
This project is way late, way over budget and my boy is starving!
Thanks for the post bro!
Kevin,
Thanks bro, I think he is going to burn his hand more than once on the exhaust damper if I use that handle... but he wants it and it's his hand.
There is nothing like working with heat and a burn. _________________ SEE YA!

H4ppy-chris is a Brit, so he thinks he was talking about aluminium not aluminum!
So any HD foil would do the job. _________________ JM2C, BWTFDIK, YMMV, MDN!

Nope your spelling is OK for here, but the British spell it with the extra 'i' that we don't use... it's like the Canadians spelling colour with a 'u' in it!
It's just part of the wonders of the English language and the different way it is pronounced or written in different country's! _________________ JM2C, BWTFDIK, YMMV, MDN!

Thank you my brother Troy, The intake is probably the first thing on this build that I'm not looking back on and second guessing. I hope it woks well. I got the handles at Blue Collar Supply, they sell alot of odds and ends. I think they were about .80 cents each. The one in the pick is beat to death, I'll put two new ones on before I ship it to you.
Maniac, SoEzzy, Gf, h4ppy-chris and Kevin,
Thanks for the info guys! It makes more sense to me now, I'm not busting your chops h4ppy-chris... for some reason I was thinking it was some kind of paste or flux that I never heard of. _________________ SEE YA!

Hmm, add steering gear and compete in the Smoke Box Derby , then a go-kart engine for mobile vending , or not . Maybe it's a good thing I don't weld.

The Drum odyssey continues!
I haven't been working on it that much as of late, I need a lid from Bruce! He has rejected the old weber lids that we have...
Yeah, they are a little bent but it's just a smoker! He has looked at some new knockoff kettles to steal a lid from, but none of them made the cut... So, he is going to buy a new weber for a lid. I think Troy may have got to him, he sure likes to spend money on this thing. Ol Bruce is shaking in his boots... I think he has just realized that he might have to cook on this thing this summer!
Thanks for checking in Mike!

A steering mechanism has crossed my mind after pushing this thing around a few times. I've got to add some breaks to the list... it has rolled away from me a few times.
I always wanted to start welding again, The Ring gave me the excuse to start again and spend money I don't have... _________________ SEE YA!

Guys,
I had a little time this weekend to work on the drum, man we had some great weather and I didn't want to be working on the drum. Once I got into it, it was all good and I got some things finished. I started the day working on the stack damper. Then I got some help from my good friend and neighbor, Eric. This guy can build just about anything he sets his mind to...
The airplane he built, it's a Glasair Super II.
He went out for a short spin so I got a better pic.
Anyway.. I had a problem with my handle stock, it was too big and I had no way to get it to the size I needed. I wanted to thread the handle on to the end of the stock without welding it. Soooo, I gets me trusty grinder out and started to mess things up. This was not working out,
so I went to the airport to find brother Eric.
(Ya know... I wouldn't have these types of problems if I had every tool on the planet. )
Eric helping a brother out.
After he fixed up my handle we threaded it and I was good to go.
I needed my turkey therm bolts drilled, so while I was there he drilled them and the came out cal-custom.
Step 2
Thanks for the help brother Eric!
The bolts came out great, but I forgot to take a finished pic.
You guys didn't want to see a pic of a bolt...
After that I got back to work on the damper and this is how it came out.
The backside
Open
Closed
At this time, I would like to take a minute to publicly thank brother Troy...
for the inspiration on the stack damper!
Later on Bruce came over and was real happy with the stack damper and how it snaps in to the closed position. _________________ SEE YA!

So you have a "keeping up with the Jones's" thing going on against an airplane? That explains a lot. Prolly why it's taking so long. Also why it's coming out so nice. Great work on the stack Chuck! FWIW...the airplane should only expel thin blue smoke as well, the thick white stuff no bueno there either. _________________

Maniac,
Thank you, I'm ready to fire this thing up, but Bruce and I both have a real busy week this week. We are trying to find a hole in our schedules this week... just wanna see if it works like I want it to. I don't think this design is anything new, it's been done I'm sure, it's just on a larger scale as far as intake and exhaust pipe diameters. I like weber lid, I think the damper in the lid is a little small though. I have had days when my uds doesn't want to get to turkey cooking temp (300-350) with all vents open, so three ways to control this thing and almost unlimited air flow in and out should do the trick... and yes that machine is on my list, I looked it up already, $800-1000 to my door step.
Brother Mike,
Thank you, and I can't even try to keep up with those guys. Most of their hangers are machine shops, but it is nice having them around.
GF,
Thanks bro, yep its good in the airport, we all do different things for a living and we try to help each other out when we can. _________________ SEE YA!

Chuck, the UDS is looking awesome bro. The stack damper turned out mighty fine my friend. Nothing at all wrong with having friends with those kind of toys at your disposal. Ive got a couple like that, but they dont have airplanes
