Ringers,
I got a chance to play around with my torch and anvil over the weekend. Very Happy

I got 3 straps made-up in no time... love'n the new tools. Wink

Test fit.

The straps are almost done at this point.
I need to pick up a few things during the week to finish the intake.

Also got the lid ring fit and welded.
Thanks for taking a peek! Wink

It looks like smoke should be rolling out soon.

GF,
Thanks bro! I like the spice grinder idea. Laughing
I didn't get a chance to work on it over the weekend, so if time permits,
she should be close to going to the sand blaster after this weekend... I hope Wink

Troy,
Thank you my brother! Wink
Bruce is in charge of the sand blasting & paint, he wants it to be midnight blue and silver Shocked Very Happy
I think it would be cool looking red and black or all black... He is pretty set on his colors though.
I'll shoot it for him if he wants it all one color... but I think he is looking for a painter too! Shocked HA! Laughing
I really don't care what colors he paints it, I just want it to look good. Wink

Maniac,
Thanks for the kind post bro! Very Happy
One of the reasons we had to stop on this build was because I didn't have the tools we needed to build it the way I wanted. Crying or Very sad
The first strap we made was pounded out on concrete with a small propane torch... It took a long time and it was messing up my slab. Shocked
So after talking with Troy & Kevin, Troy hooked me up with a new torch outfit and Kevin made sure I didn't blow up my house. Laughing
My neighbor Eric gave me the anvil and a metal bandsaw... now I can finish it. Wink

Guys,
Ever had one of those build days when nothing goes right?
Well today was that day for me. Laughing
I got some finish welding done, also blew a few holes (bout 1,000,000) in this bad boy. Rolling Eyes
This drum is paper thin and has bad spots in it. Hit a bad or thin spot and blow a hole clean through in the blink of an eye... Rolling Eyes Laughing
Well, without going into too much detail, this is todays progress. Wink

Started the intake damper.

That's it, some welding and one piece for the intake...
Told ya, it was one of those days! Laughing

Chuck, the cooker is looking fantastic my Friend. Very Happy
Sooner or later your gonna have to quit adding to it I know it is a nice winter project and all but the new owner may want to use it someday. Laughing
What do you do polish that torch with Brasso when your not using it? That thing is shinier than a new Lincoln Penney. Razz Laughing
Take care my Friend I look forward to some more pics and updates. Very Happy

Chuck, its always nice to know that your not the only one who has had one of "those" days. Not that I wish anything bad on ya bro, but misery does love company Laughing Tried to do a little disco work and everything I touched went south fast, so finally cracked a beer, sat in the chair with the radio on and stared off into space...a pretty good day if I must say so myself Wink

The UDS is looking awesome man, you are doing some fine work on that bad boy for sure. So, is Bruce still complaining that its too much and he cant take it??? All I have to say to that is.....Bruce, how much do I owe you Cool

Kevin,
Thanks my friend,
the things that need to be finished so I can get this thing out of my garage are...
1. Finish intake and stack dampers.
2. Drill rack and turkey therm holes & ss bolts.
3. Fit new lid (if it needs it)
4. Make basket handle and basket hook.
5. One or two cosmetic addons (.5 hrs at the most).
6. Assemble.
7. Test fire.
8. Disassemble for sandblasting and paint (Bruce)
9. Reassemble and ship! Laughing
It's not a big list, but it is a annoying list for sure. Laughing

Bro you know how I am about these things Rolling Eyes
What's wrong with polishing my new torch? Laughing
I try to keep the hoses clean too! Wink Laughing

Gf,
I starting to hate these drums a little. Laughing
But I think I'm done welding on the drum unless I have some pin holes to plug Wink I think the thing that made it real bad was the piece of metal that is stuck in my left eye! Laughing
I wear eye protection, but somehow it bounced into my hood... and that was the day ender my friend.
Thanks for the post. Wink

I told him, "put that sign away bro... Your cooker will be done this year!" Laughing
Thank you bro. Wink

That's a great looking smoker you have going on chuckied. I understand the frustrations. I'm having to seek out folks to do work I'm unable to do and our priorities don't always match. Confused

Hah! I do that all the time...for no reason at all. Very Happy

KAKid,
Thanks Bro! Cool
I have been known to crack a beer or two and call it a day. Laughing

You are right my friend, what was I thinking Shocked Laughing and the eye is ok bro.
Thanks for the post! Wink

SWP5767,
Thanks for the kind words! Cool

Kevin,
Thank you for the words of encouragement my brother Rolling Eyes , I have been under the weather for a couple weeks... so this coooker has not been a priority. Laughing

I did get the intake done. The slider will have a felt bottom applied to it after the paint is done, so it can move without messing up the paint. Wink I am happy with the way it came out, cuz it came out the way I pictured it and that is not always the case when I set out to build something. Laughing

Building the damper.
Welded some bolts to a plate.

Almost done, I didn't want to finish shaping the front until the end, so it would match the curve in the strap.

Test fit.

Ready to weld.

Took my time welding this up... I didn't want to warp the plate. Shocked

Welded

Finished intake pics. Very Happy

Thanks for looking! Very Happy

the weld wont stick to the ally
