Ok guys, I have a blessing and a dilemma on my hands. I work at a plant that has a "boneyard" where old crap goes to rust until it can be scraped. This welder/trailer is basically up for grabs to anyone that wants it and will get it out of the plant. It has been sitting out there for a year and I was offered it but I have no idea what is wrong with the welder or where to even start to get it looked at. I mean it could be that it is non-repairable. Im sure they wouldnt have thrown out a welder that could have easily been fixed. So my question is what should I do with it if I get it? At a minimum the trailer is worth selling but what is yalls thoughts on the machine?

Here are the pics...

Thanks,

Josh

StickPigBBQ, If you got a way to take it and somewhere to put it I would take it, (I'm like that though). Embarassed
Companies throw out plenty of good stuff cause a new one is in the budget.
Worst case is you tear it apart and sell it for scrap.

If I was you I would get that thing out of there asap. If I'm correct that's a miller trailblazer 350. That's a pretty good machine. If you were to buy a used one it would be in the 1000 to 2500 dollar range depending. Find out what's wrong with it and how much it would be to fix it. You might just have a smoking deal there. No pun intended.

Worst case scenario is it is too $$$ to fix it. Even then I have to imagine there is a few hundred bucks in copper windings in there.

I like your thought processes fellas! Im gonna check out the tanks tomorrow and see if they are in test date. If so thats another few hundred dollars there, (or I might just exchange them for some gas of my own!)

Stickpig you will not find a bigger miller fan than me, but everything has its life and i feel that puppy is done. You could try but i feel it would be a money pit. The switch is gone, and the best i can see it has alot of hours on it. That is a nice trailer though. That machine new was at least 4 to 5 grand or more. Wink

Looks like its seen a few better days, but one never knows until they take a look at it. Never know, might fire right up and run like a champ, might take a few bucks, might be a hunk of $hit. Worse case, you scrap it out and make some beer money and have a decent little trailer out of it that a welder somewhere would buy. The ox/acc tanks alone on there are worth quite a few bucks if they come on the deal. Id snag that thing up in a heartbeat and see what happens. Very Happy

Lets see, rolling trailer with a welder on it.......welder may not work......drag said trailer to a repair site, Airgas or some other. Invest a $100 bucks for a shakedown and still have a trailer and a load of scrap on it.

If it is repairable for a grandish or under SWEET. At that point sell it for double or use it till the ends of the bbq era. If it is junk, the copper and the trailer are worth more than a $100 bucks, oh and parts out the welder.

Gotta see this as a win all round.

Well i went and talked to the right people and I am in the 30 day waiting game now. As it turns out, after I filled out the paperwork to take it from the plant I have to wait 30 days to ensure that it is ok to leave and then its mine. So as long as there are no hang ups with it, I will have this trailer next month! I will let you guys know what happens. I would really like to see if the welder is repairable. If so I would love to keep it but if not I will make a few bucks on scrap. for it.

Are they actually going to let those cylinders go with the rig? Most companies rent/lease cylinders. I'd be surprised if they the cylinders go and keep paying the rent on them. Just curious.

so it's been over a month, are you now in possesion of this or was there a "hickup" in the process? If you are in possesion, have you had it checked out and what's the damage or getting her running if possible?
