so I know there's a million of these franchises all over, but only 2 in new england (1 in mass & 1 in maine). me and my wife checked it out last week, just to see what it was like. honestly wasn't expecting much, but it was pretty decent.
we got some big special combo, about $22 for ribs (st louis cuts), half chicken, brisket, fries, slaw, and cornbread.
the ribs were pretty good, chicken was good, brisket was bad (real salty & weird texture), slaw was ok, fries were great (thick but kind of ridged, very crispy), cornbread nothing special. they had a lot of sauces (maybe 5?) but they were pretty much all the same, very sweet, KC masterpiece style plus one sweet mustard, the hot was not hot at all. none of the meats were that smoky, but they said they use hickory and I would assume some massive expensive smokers.
service was good (it was dead, around 3pm) and the manager came out to give us a pack of coupons, free bottle of sauce, etc.
overall better than we expected, but I probably wouldn't go there again. |

Everyone seems to bag on Daves. Sure most of us produce better Q that is to our own personal taste at home but for a chain its not bad. At least the one by me is not. They make decent ribs, have rib tips, and their bird is ok. For a chain they are decent. A step up from say an applebees in terms of food quality. All should stay as far away from the brisket as possible at any location. _________________ "if you cant cook it in bacon grease it ain't worth eating"

The wife and I drive up to Franklin, Tn every few weeks and spend the weekend up there. The FD's there is pretty decent. Sure, most of us can crank out better, but overall I don't mind dropping a few bucks there. BBQ is OK, Chicken and Sausage is pretty dad-gum good for what it is. The sweet cornbread muffins are the kicker for me though. Desert usually consists of a cornbread muffin in one hand and a bottle of FD's spicy sauce in the other _________________ WHY DO I HAVE TO PRESS 1 FOR ENGLISH ?? |
