Started my new cooker today!! It is a 120 gal tank 21x67 mounted to a 24x24x24 firebox (yes I know its big but the 24in drops were cheap!) its being mounted on a pop up trailer frame. It will be a reverse flow with 2 oven door opening doors.
Pics to come soon With help from a great guy!
Now I need to go rest my arms after burning thru a bunch of cuttting wheels today! |

| Steel thickness on the body of the tank is 1/4 in with the domes just a little thicker. The firebox is also 1/4in. |

Yessir, a fine start! Cut off wheel build...cool. They can be a pain but no heat. Looking forward to this one. FB on the left...is this a left handed thing? Always been curious to that. _________________

Thanks K.A.M. for posting these for me!
This build has been a real learning experience for me. First of all my buddy Steve whose shop we used and I GROSSLEY underestimated the time for labor! and steel prices did come as something of a shock. In addition to the tank ( 21x67 )I used almost 2 4x8 sheets of 1/4 in steel, Close to 20 ft of 2 x1/4 in angle, and probably 40 ft. of 1 1/4 x1/8 in angle. Thehinges are 1/2id DOM tube and 1/2 in rod, theres about 7 ft. of hinge total. Labor was near,, AHH I dont even want to think about that! lets just say my wife was wondering what I looked like. This thing is built like a tank! we tried to weigh just the cooker but bottomed out a 650 lb. scale.
The doors swing out to the sides, and all 4 racks (all removeable) also swing out to the sides. 2 racks are 20x24, 1 rach is 20x18 and the last rack is 20x12. The RF plate is 1/4 steel. I was worried about load cap. on the racks so we put a 100 lb weight out on the end of them and had no problem. The Chimney is 5in od with a swingaway plate on the top just to keep out wasps.
I wish I had better pics of the firebox door, Steve really busted his hump on it and it really nice.
I couldnt wait last night to try it! so I did a test burn, and with wether 42 degrees and rainy it took 1 hr for it to come up to 275 then it held at 300+ for 4 hrs on 20 lbs of kingsford. I was a happy guy!
So this morning its off to the car wash to clean up all the oil and grinder dust. Then we start burning it in and seasoning!
HUGE THANKS in this buid to the pit calculator, whoever did this saved me a huge amount of problem. K.A.M. for posting some pics for my technology impaired behind, and especially to my buddy Steve, without his shop and Fab skills I couldnt have got this project done myself! |
