I'm going away from my original stick burner build plan and leaning towards a pellet trailer build. This is mainly because concern on available wood and cost of wood for the stick burner while I have pellets available 6 blocks from my house. Size wise I'm looking to build something close to the same size as a FEC120. Will one traeger burner pot be sufficient for a build of this size? Would a rotisserie be worth the investment? Keep in mind I'm looking to do this on the littlest budget possible. Thanks

HuskerMan, I have a FEC-100. It has one pot and will kick out a temp of over 400 F.

I hear ya on pellet availability. I buy from the Mfgr. I just have to drive 40 miles to get em. My cost is $10 per 40 pound bag. Hickory, Oak or Mesquite. Occasionally they have Apple. I like the fact I can run 225-250 for $.25/hr and get some sleep.

I wouldn't put in a roto in that small of a cooker. The FEC-300 and up have them. The 500 & 750 have 2 fire pots.

Should I be looking for a pellet unit from a certain size traeger for this build? I imagine a burner unit from say a Junior model traeger will put out different heat/smoke than say a unit from a Texas model traeger?

I think some of the FEC owners have converted over from the old Traeger system to the new IQ4.
You might ask over at the Cook Shack for an old FEC controller or Pellethead forums.
I'm not familiar with Traeger so I'll leave it at that.

Jarhead,

You make me sick, really.

$.25 a pound, I just paid $.42 delivered. And I had to get 1000lbs.

Does the FEC300 have only one pot?? The FEC500 does have two, but the FEC750 has three.

The FEC has a well insulated cabinet so where one firebox may work well there, if your unit isn't insulated it may be a different thing.
