Probably a dumb question but what would happen if I put orange rinds on the fire while smoking my turkey? Would it make it bitter or give it an orange flavor? I don't mean a lot of them but a few.

I would think they would put a funky nasty taste - too wet and oily....putting them directly on or in your bird would work IMHO

That's what my husband said. I really like an orange taste if you can't tell. Shocked

Inject a watered down orange juice into the bird or make a orange glaze to pour over it.The citrus will cook the meat, so if you inject, do it just before you cook it not the nite before.

I used to do this with chicken and pork. Near the end of the cook put just a few pieces on the coals. My family thought that it was good. I would not do it with any wood smoke.

I have an Orange Grove, so I've done it all. Don't do it. If you can get your hands on bunch of oranges, Juice them and reduce them down to make a glaze. Doctor it up with seasoning you like. That should make you happy. If you can get some orange wood, the flavor is very mild and almost sweet.

I love using this brand of charcoal......I just don't like paying the premium price of $24 a bag.

This charcoal does add some great flavor....especially when used for grilling.
