I am planning a build with an offset fire box and a horizontal rectangular chamber. I haven't really seen that before but can't see why it would work. I sketched up something on a google program called sketchup but haven't been able to get it to post.

ekamm, in my opinion it will work just fine as long as you size everything appropriately.

That's pretty cool. I am building a bit larger but there are some really good ideas there.

Here is a rough diagram of what I am thinking of. The dimensions are as follows
Firebox 30"Wx22"Hx24"D
Vertical chamber 30"Wx40"Hx24"D
Horizontal chamber 50"Wx30"Hx30"D
Tell me what you think, shoot holes in it all comments appreciated.

ekamm, I like all your numbers it looks like a solid build. Very Happy
You could use a slide damper like the cookers in my signatures have to introduce smoke into the warming chamber.
Here is a link to the short version of my comp trailer.

I hope this helps. Very Happy

Great looking rig. I haven't gotten faron my design yet and definitely planned on adding a damper to the warming box. Where did you get the springs that you use for you handles?

ekamm, I buy them at KCK.com. I use the 5" SS with 1/2" opening.

I copied the link from feldons pit calculator page. Hope that I did it right. I changed a few measurements. I noticed that one of TuscaloosaQ's trailer builds was pretty much the same idea that I had. Only they have adapted cabinet doors to a round tank and mine will be completely rectangular. I'll post a more detailed plan when I get it together.

Hey ekamm. I am currently building a rectangular type similar to yours. I chose the shape pretty much for an easier first build for myself. I am not a metal worker by any means. Got a couple great helpers though. My cooking chamber is 40"W 30"H 24"D. The firebox is a 24" cube. I am using tuning plates in mine. I also found out that 1/4" plate is heavy Smile Mine will weigh around 800 lbs when finished. So now I am going to build a trailer as well. Here is what I have so far. And good luck!
