Have I been out of the food business that long that I haven't noticed the pricing structure change?
The wife and I went out to dinner this evening to a place we have been wanting to try. It is right on the lake (even has it's own swimming pool!!) and we had noticed that it was always fairly busy on Fri-Sat nights.
Any way, check out this menu and the pricing and maybe some could explain why anyone would price things like this...

Strange but if you add 8.25% sales tax the items come out to numbers like 8.50 or 9.25, etc.
My guess would be they started off priced with tax included like in a vending situation, then just stuck with it? _________________ 22.5 Weber Kettle

That's great!
This way, your bill will come to an even $56, not to $53.24. |

Makes sense to me,
I know my POS can do tax rounding calculations like that to cut down on rolled coin usage. _________________ Just remember that the toes you may step on during your climb to the top will also be attached to the a$$es you'll be forced to kiss on your way back down! |

I have no doubt that a POS can do that but in a restaurant situation where (more than likely) 90% of the transactions are by plastic (credit/debit) cards.. _________________ Where rumors end and legend lives forever... |

Not related, but some of those prices seem pretty low (wings) while others (chili cheese fries) seem kinda high to me. |

We are about 50/50 on CC & Cash.
Some of our combo plates have oddly priced components, but when they are assembled into the combination during the order entry process, they come up to a more common numeric value.
My POS software has a feature named "Fresh List" that I use to count down limited supply items, so the odd pricing is required to keep a correct item count listed so the cashiers do not over/under sell a product such as tips, ribs , or specials. _________________ Just remember that the toes you may step on during your climb to the top will also be attached to the a$$es you'll be forced to kiss on your way back down! |

Maybe they calculated cost per item and added a set mark-up percentage? _________________ Steve Whiting

That would be my guess also but 99.99% of places mark their product up (or in rare cases, down) to the nearest dollar...or half dollar.
Like his price is $16.38..most would go ahead and mark it up to $16.50 or even up to $16.99. _________________ Where rumors end and legend lives forever... |

We wound up NOT eating there...we thought it was a better restaurant (seafood) but was nothing more than a tavern with standard fried tavern food...In Texas they call them "Honky Tonks" _________________ Where rumors end and legend lives forever... |
