BBQ competitions are becoming more popular here in Northern California and one gaining in popularity is the Pros & Joes Grilldown here in Redding. On Thursday I got a call from a friend of mine that is a contestant this year. He said they were looking for some more judges for this years competition and ask if I we interested.

So needless to say I singed right up to judge for todays cook off!

Low Tech and High Tech cookers and all having a great time.
I had a lot of fun judging and got to bring home some good eats!!

phil c,

The wheelbarrow and washer drums were my favorites! He said it was a 40 year old wheelbarrow. I said well at least we know it was built well!

Hi Kevin,

Yes, it was a fun day of good eats! I really enjoyed tasting samples of BBQ from some great cooks!

Hey awesome! I was looking for my team in the pictures. We've cooked in that every year since it started. We were right next to the judging area and Dill's with the whole hog.

There gets to be better food and competition every year...great times.

Hi crashdavis,
I must have walked by your set up a dozen times that day checking everything out. I agree, it's been getting better every year. I really enjoyed getting to judge the the food and hope I can do it again next year. Maybe well get a chance to meet.

Hey! Good too see another NorCal guy. How does one get to be a judge? LoL. I wish I had known about that, I would have lived to check it out. We need more BBQ events in NorCal.

There are lots of BBQ events in northern California. We are competing this weekend in the Silicon Valley BBQ Championships in Santa Clara. On July 12, we are competing in the Wine Country Big Q competition in Rohnert Park.

If you make it to either of those events, stop by and say hi.
