When I started building cookers it seemed everyone had a project going, lots of sharing, encouragement, criticism. It has been a few years since I frequented here. I am surprised that there seem to be way less projects to share and enjoy.

Has everyone finally finished their dream machine, got all the answers, or just buying commercial? Or is it the economy, cost, time?

Maybe just my imagination or I am missing something? Luckily there are still lots of answers in the archives to help with my patio build.

smootz it is not your imagination...the whole forum is very dead. there are a few posts about how and why it is dead. It is sad I told a few friends to join a couple weeks later they asked why I thought it was such a great site and didn't know what to tell them. I hope it gets better some day, was a good time reading about builds and cooks, and life in general. keep us posted on your build.

I dropped off back in 2012 when one of my builds got turned into a pissing contest. One member in particular seemed to take offense to my methods and pushed my buttons any chance he got. I figured I owed something to the site in return for all the great info I had skimmed from it but after posting 4 detailed builds I figured my "debt" was paid and I tired of the drama.

Not to be arrogant, but after 4 years I have a fair idea of how to build this patio smoker. Not that I wouldn't covet and appreciate advice and CONSTRUCTIVE criticism. The experience of this forum is priceless.

Like you, I would like to see a "revival" of the forum. I will certainly post progress on my patio smoker and hope for comments that will make it a better machine.

It will be a slow build for three reasons. (1) I am having a minor surgery tomorrow that delays the start. (2) I have two other smokers so there is no urgency. (3) I run a business here so cookers are built during rare "slow times".

I was gone as well...seems very quiet..sadly...I miss the vibrancy and ribbing...not the meat type either.....kam is about..seldom see names that were common 4 yrs ago...trailerbuilder is 1 not seen...by me anyway...I am in the early stages of a build and as I am not 100 % I am sloooo...and it was -20...negative 20 over the w/e...

Like many sites it prolly got stale to some and folks change paths...I will stick about and come a bit warmer get pics out and ask questions...and be sarcastic, rude, generally unacceptable....but a hell of a lot of fun...just ask the voices in my head...

quote, "and be sarcastic, rude, generally unacceptable"

Very reason I quit in 2012. Some stuff went beyond teasing and became malicious. I hope that crap stays in the past.

I am not building right now mainly because I have enough cookers. Laughing I have worked on quite a few repairing them for friends locally. I do believe once a lot of the members finish their builds they move on to greener pastures because they got what they needed and life goes on. In other words they may not be interested in the rest of the forum just the cooker info. I can tell y'all this I used to get a lot of emails on the Feldon calculator because I am linked to the Q&A but now it is seldom I get one.
I look forward to following your progress. Very Happy

KAM - I always appreciated your advise. Your experience and willingness to share it is priceless. As I start yet another it would be nice to know that you've got my back. I have to warn you in advance though that I still use bolts, gaskets, and spinner vents. Smile

I have already leaning away from insulating it after seeing how you are using thermal blankets.

Hi I joined awhile back and love reading all the build experiences. But have to agree that postings have slowed down drastically.

I don't have a smoker but in the progress of an offset build. Things have slowed down for me as I have been dealing with a family crisis and the passing of my mom. Hoping to get the build going again very soon.

When it's completed and I start to cook on it I will share my limited experience

Thanks to all for there help so far much appreciated.

Nice! - You doing anything for TAC? I just bought a pipe drop from John.

I took a short cut some time back because of road closing. Pretty sure I saw your cooker unless someone else in your neighborhood has one that nice.

Let me know when you start one. I got a whole holler full of propane tanks, various sizes. I make all kinds of stuff out of them. Make you a brotherhood deal.

I don't get on as often as I used to. I hate the picture posting procedures so I keep my builds to my self.
