Has anyone ever tried to bake anything in a grill? I have a trailer mounted smoker that I would like to try to bake biscuits or a cobbler on. I know to use a cast iron dutch oven, but I was wondering if anyone had any other advice.

Do it all the time. Use charcoal, and run your temp up to 350 - 425.

You say grill and smoker; which are you asking about? You can do pizzas in a grill; when I do I either use a stone on the grate or put aluminum foil under it to try and soften the harsh heat. Cant imagine "baking" anything else on a grill unless you do it indirect and watch carefully.

In a smoker, if you're not limited by a maximum temperature of your unit you can bake anything. I bake, cornbread, pizza, regular sandwich bread, several kinds of pies. I'm not sure a smoker is the place to bake a cake but you could.
