Coke is also good for removing the corrosion from your car's battery terminals...

Coke is good with peanuts, whickey, bourbon, rum, vodka, and just good ole ice.

Coke in a glass bottle with just a little bit of ice on top is heaven in a bottle...

I read the initial post and skipped the rest of the thread so excuse me if what I'm about to post is a repeat or upsets some members ... but.

I feel that most competitors make better products than many BBQ restaurants/caterers serve. Now, that doesn't mean that the restauranter/caterer isn't as good of cook but when cooking for a contest, it is exactly like what the initial post said - trying to get 6 perfect servings is different than getting X number of suitable dishes prepared before (1 hours, 3 hours, whatever) it's time to serve.

The restauranters/caterers/competitor who realize the difference between serving the masses vs preparing each specific meat to be judged are generally good at both. But the guy who's done one without the other is probably in for a headache - it goes both ways.

No one should get upset on either side, it's comparing apples and oranges. Competitors would do things differently if cooking for 300 compared to 6.

I think one of the most important watch-phrases in competition threads (and advice) is, "Check your ego at the door." I feel that applies to both the person offering the information/advice and the person on the receiving end.

Just last year I was a virgin competitor and I'd be lying if I were to say that I didn't feel more than a little intimidated by all the attitude on the various forums.

I certainly don't intend to come across as preachy, but I would encourage all veteran competitors to think back to what it was like when you were a newbie before you reply. Put yourself in their shoes and frame of mind before you hit that 'Submit' button. Think about the unstated messages and remember that there are no facial expressions and/or body language online.

Just my $0.03,
John
